Microchip Programing

UID microchips come with an 8-digit, alphanumeric ID. They also come with additional on-board memory (16 characters) for read/write programming capabilities. This feature allows researchers to program the microchip with useful “human readable” data, such as study or project number, genotype, date of birth, or any other data to be associated with the study animal.

TUMOR MEASUREMENTS

The UID piSuite Oncology application is designed to streamline and automate the data collection process for tumor measurements and body weights in your rodent studies. The program collects, evaluates, and runs reports on data related to the measurement and tracking of xenograft and orthotopic tumors in preclinical oncology studies. The software captures data hands-free via the use of RFID readers, electronic calipers, balances, and other connected devices.

The chips are very reasonable in price and come with the advantage of user defined character space on the chip identification. This was very attractive to us as we can put our animal numbers and study numbers on the chip in human readable form rather than relying on a computer to read the chip code (very hard for staff to use that number to drive operations). In addition, we have now been using their temperature capable chips that will simultaneously provide body temperature at the same time as the animal ID, very useful for our host resistance studies. We are also using the 2D arrays from that are the footprint of rodent cages and facilitate tracking animal activity and body temperature in real-time. All of their equipment is durable and on the rare occasion we need something repaired they have never charged us for it!
