The challenge

Manual cage checks were eating an entire FTE.

Biotechnix runs a mid-sized contract research operation specializing in metabolic and behavioral studies. Their vivarium houses approximately 1,200 rodent cages across two buildings, with three to five active studies at any given time. They were running three concurrent rodent studies, each requiring activity scoring at fixed intervals. Between scoring rounds, IACUC welfare checks, and data transcription, two senior vivarium techs were spending nearly half their week on observation work that could be instrumented.
