How UID and Harloff Built a DEA-Compliant Narcotics Cabinet for the CSI-360
Harloff Manufacturing
UID needed a DEA-compliant cabinet for its CSI-360 system. Harloff engineered custom SKUs with nutserted mounting points, enabling turn-key installation in research facilities and veterinary practices.
The partnership at a glance
- DEA compliant storage certified
- 2 custom cabinet models developed
- Turn-key installation, no field assembly required
The CSI-360 needed a cabinet the DEA would approve.
UID's Controlled Substance Inventory System (CSI-360) combines two-part authentication, RFID tracking, and novel software to provide secure access and accurate, weight-based recording of every controlled substance in the animal research facility. The missing piece was a narcotics cabinet: DEA-approved, built for easy access and RFID integration, and suitable for both lab and veterinary settings. UID needed a manufacturing partner who could deliver custom hardware, not just a catalog product.

Harloff's engineering team worked with UID to identify the right base models from their narcotics cabinet line — the 2830AQ and 2803AQ variants — then developed custom versions with new nutserts that let the CSI-360 system affix directly to the cabinet without additional hardware or field modification. Harloff also took over production of the small metal plate used to attach the CSI-360 lock assembly to the cabinet, simplifying UID's supply chain and improving consistency across installations.
The partnership between the two companies has been especially beneficial, as Harloff has created custom SKUs that are nutserted for turn-key custom installations. This has allowed veterinarian practices the ability to install the cabinets quickly and easily in their facilities, without having to worry about any additional assembly or installation.
