Provisioning service

Order Microchips Pre-Programmed with Your Own IDs

Simplify your workflow with UID’s custom microchip programming service. We program each microchip with your unique alphanumeric ID (up to 16 characters), ensuring accuracy and consistency for your research or tracking needs.

  • Send an Excel file — one row per chip, up to 16 alphanumeric characters each: study number, cohort code, genotype, or your own numbering scheme.
  • Programmed in the sealed cannula — the same method our provisioning stations use, so sterility is never broken.
  • Labeled to match — every package carries the data written on the chip inside, so the label and the scanner always agree.
Validated In

One Chip, Many Species

Validated species — the UC-2112 has documented use across the full range of common research models.

  • Mice

    Small rodent research

  • Rats

    Standard rodent model

  • Guinea Pigs

    Pre-clinical research

  • Rabbits

    Mid-size model

  • Ferrets

    Translational research

  • Dogs

    Large-animal research

  • Primates

    Non-human primate studies

  • Sheep

    Large-animal model

Implantation routes

Three Documented Routes

Confirm implantation route selection against your species, protocol, and veterinary guidance.

  • IP — Intraperitoneal

Standard route for rodents in most research protocols. Allows consistent positioning and reliable long-term read range.

  • SQ — Subcutaneous

Common in larger species and when minimizing procedural complexity is a priority. Confirm route selection against your species, protocol, and veterinary guidance.

  • IM — Intramuscular

For studies requiring specific anatomical placement or where IP/SQ routes are contraindicated by study design.

Common Questions

  • How do I program a chip before implanting it?

Use the UPS-60 Chip Provisioning Station. Load each chip, enter 1–16 alphanumeric characters — study number, group, or genotype — and the station writes it to memory inside the sealed cannula, so sterility is never broken. A full box batches in minutes.

  • Can I re-program a chip after implantation?

Yes — no re-implant required. Bring the animal to a UBS-200L Base Station Reader; it detects the implanted chip automatically and lets you write new operator-readable data when study designations change.

  • What's the difference between the fixed ID and programmable data?

They're two separate fields. The 8-digit ID is a permanent unique ID set by the factory. The 16-character programmable field is yours to write and re-write anytime.

  • Will my existing UID readers work with it?

Yes. The UC-2112 reads on the entire UID reader family, so readers already in your vivarium work with no changes. Only programming uses dedicated hardware — the UPS-60 on the bench and the UBS-200L for in-animal re-programming.

  • Can you pre-program chips with our IDs before shipping?

Yes. Send an Excel file with one row per chip, up to 16 characters each; we program every chip inside its sealed sterile cannula and label the package to match.

  • Is the UC-2112 compatible with imaging?

Yes — MRI, X-ray, ultrasound, and NMR. It's a passive, battery-free chip in a 2.1 × 13 mm Bioglass 8625 capsule, so there's no power source to interfere with imaging.
