URH-1L
The URH-1L is a medium-range handheld scanning device designed to read encoded data from all UID microchips. Its wireless design is useful in lab environments where mobility is needed. This handheld reader can also connect to a PC via USB, or over Bluetooth with the Bluetooth dongle.

Everything in One Handheld Unit
The URH-1L has two different scanning modes: continuous mode for scanning several microchips in a sequence, and individual mode for scanning a single microchip with the press of a button. When connected to a PC via USB or Bluetooth with our Bluetooth dongle, the reader can put read data into whatever field you have selected in your software or LIMS. A built-in small screen on the reader lets you view the data as it's read from the microchip.

When should I pick the URH-1L over the URH-1HP?
Read range is the main difference. The URH-1HP reads at 5.5–7.1 cm using a separate round antenna head; the URH-1L reads at 4–5 cm from a single flat body. Pick the URH-1L for the more compact unit, or the URH-1HP when you need the extra read range.

Does continuous mode drain the battery faster?
Yes. Continuous mode keeps the antenna powered between reads, so battery life is shorter than in single-scan mode. For long census sessions at a fixed station, run the reader on AC power instead. The option is built in.

Can it program microchips?
No. The URH-1L is a read-only handheld. Programming requires a UBS-200L base station or a UPS-60 provisioning station paired with UID's PiSuite Provisioning Software.

How does data get into our LIMS?
Over USB or Bluetooth, the reader presents as an HID keyboard, and the read drops into whichever field has focus, the same way a barcode scanner types. That covers LIMS, ELN, Excel, and most lab software with no driver install.

What charger and batteries does it use?
The URH-1L runs on an integrated 3.7 V rechargeable Li-ion battery and requires the UBC-i2 charger. Sites rotating batteries across several URH 1-series readers use the 4-channel UBC-i4 charger; replacement batteries are available as a separate SKU.

What species is it recommended for?
Rodents: mice, rats, hamsters, and rabbits, with subcutaneous placement for all species and intraperitoneal for mice and rats.
