It reads UID's full UC-Series at 134.2 kHz — and also resolves 125 kHz tags at shorter range. Connect to a host system over USB cable or Bluetooth. Built for veterinary clinics and wildlife field work where the operator needs to stay mobile.

  • Which UID tags does the URH-1HP-ISO read?

    The full UC-Series of UID implantable microchips, plus any ISO 11784/11785 FDX-B PIT tag including UID's 1.4×8.5 mm and 2.1×12 mm formats. It also reads Trovan, DataMars, and Avid ISO transponders. The 125 kHz mode handles older non-ISO tags at shorter range.

  • Should I pick the ISO version or the non-ISO URH-1HP?

    Pick the ISO version (URH-1HP-ISO) unless you're maintaining a legacy non-ISO program. ISO 11784/11785 is the global standard for animal ID; almost every PIT tag and microchip you'd buy today is FDX-B. The non-ISO URH-1HP exists for sites that already standardized on older proprietary tag stocks.

  • USB or Bluetooth — which connection should I use?

    USB if the reader sits next to the host PC and you want a wired, no-pairing path into your LIMS. Bluetooth if the operator is moving around a procedure room, cage rack, or field site and the host is several feet away. Both modes use HID keyboard emulation, so the ID lands in whatever field has focus — no driver install required.

  • What's the practical read range?

    6–7.5 cm with a 2.1 × 12 mm ISO PIT tag. Range scales down with smaller tags — expect roughly 3–4 cm with a 1.4 × 8.5 mm tag. Read range is also affected by tag orientation relative to the antenna and by metal in the scan environment.

Need higher power or longer range?

If you're scanning into a cage, through bedding, or working with larger animals, the URH-300HP-ISO gives you 6–8" of range with the same ISO compatibility. For fixed scanning stations under a bench, the Microchip Base Console Reader is the right shape.
