Where It Fits

More Reach at the Point of Capture

Field scans do not always happen with the animal directly under the reader. The URH-300HP is built for wet, awkward work where a close-range handheld is not enough.

  • Trap and sampling work — use the 6–8 inch read range when a fish or animal cannot be positioned directly against the reader.
  • Mixed tag protocols — scan FDX-B and HDX tags with the same handheld, including compatible ISO tags from other programs.
  • Underwater scans — connect the optional URH-PLEX antenna and put the antenna in the water while the reader stays dry.
  • Direct data entry — send each tag number to the active field on a computer over USB or optional Bluetooth.
  • Wet field conditions — the IP67 enclosure is dust-tight and protects the reader from rain, spray, and accidental immersion.

  • Does it read HDX tags as well as FDX-B?

    Yes. The URH-300HP reads both FDX-B and HDX ISO PIT tags. That lets one handheld cover mixed-protocol fieldwork and work with partner programs that use HDX tags.

  • How do I scan a tagged fish underwater?

    Connect the optional URH-PLEX telescoping antenna. The antenna goes in the water while the reader body stays dry on the bank or in the boat. It also helps when you cannot position the reader body next to the animal.

  • Will it hold up on a wet deck or in the rain?

    Yes. Its IP67 enclosure is dust-tight and protects against rain, spray, and accidental temporary immersion. For routine underwater scanning, connect the URH-PLEX antenna and keep the reader body above water.

  • Will it read tags from other programs — Trovan, Avid, DataMars?

    Yes. It reads compatible ISO 11784/11785 FDX-B and HDX tags, including supported tags from Trovan, Avid, and DataMars.

  • When would I pick this over the URH-2?

    Choose the URH-300HP when you need more range, HDX support, or underwater scanning with the URH-PLEX antenna. The URH-2 is the lighter handheld for close-range FDX-B and FDX-A scans with the animal in hand.
