Lena Medina

Bringing Science, Technology, and Customer Experience Together

Lena began her career as a laboratory animal technician, gaining firsthand experience in preclinical research, animal care, and laboratory animal welfare. She later transitioned into pharmaceutical and medical device sales, where she spent more than 13 years working closely with pharmaceutical companies, contract research organizations (CROs), and academic research institutions.

Throughout her career, Lena has helped researchers implement innovative technologies for infusion, blood sampling, metabolic studies, and other preclinical applications. Her experience includes developing long-term customer relationships, expanding territories, supporting product development, and introducing new technologies that improve research capabilities.

Lena is also a certified Laboratory Animal Technologist (LATG) through the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS), further demonstrating her technical knowledge and commitment to laboratory animal science. Her unique combination of hands-on laboratory experience, scientific understanding, and commercial expertise makes her an excellent addition to the UID team.

Advancing RFID Technology for Research and Animal Welfare

At UID, we believe that good science and animal welfare go hand in hand. Our mission has always been to develop technologies that not only improve research efficiency and data quality but also contribute to better animal care and welfare.

Lena will focus on expanding the adoption of UID’s RFID identification and monitoring technologies throughout the research community, including:

  • RFID Animal Identification: Providing reliable, high-quality implantable microchips for accurate identification and traceability of research animals.
  • Temperature-Sensing Microchips: Advancing the use of implantable RFID temperature microchips as a valuable, minimally invasive tool for physiological monitoring, surgical recovery, and research applications.
  • Home Cage Monitoring: Supporting the adoption of UID’s AnyCage and Matrix technologies to provide automated, continuous collection of identification, temperature, and activity-related data without the need for repeated animal handling.
  • Animal Welfare and Research Refinement: Helping research institutions implement technologies that can reduce handling-related stress, improve monitoring, support earlier recognition of potential welfare concerns, and provide researchers with more meaningful physiological data.

Strengthening Our Commitment to the Research Community

As UID continues to expand its RFID technologies and home cage monitoring solutions, bringing experienced individuals like Lena onto our team reinforces our commitment to providing more than just innovative products.

“At UID, we have always believed that the best technology is developed by understanding the needs of both researchers and the animals in their care. Lena brings that understanding firsthand. Her experience in laboratory animal science, combined with her technical sales expertise and strong customer relationships, makes her an outstanding addition to our team as we continue advancing RFID identification, temperature monitoring, and home cage monitoring technologies.”
