Fixed RFID reader for manufacturing automation

ARE i9 Compact RFID Reader

Add a stationary read point where machine space is limited. ARE i9 is available as separate LF and HF models, mounts directly on metal, and connects to an ACM 9 communication module for power and control-network integration.

  • LF or 13.56 MHz HF
  • Direct metal mount
  • IP67

Where it fits

A Fixed RFID Reader for Tight Machine Installations

At 55.8 × 40.8 × 24 mm, ARE i9 fits close to tooling, carriers, fixtures, and operator stations without requiring a large reader enclosure at every location.

  • Direct-on-metal installation — mount the reader on the machine without a separate nonmetallic standoff.
  • LF model — reads ASK, PSK, FSK, and HDX transponders at 125 kHz and 134.2 kHz.
  • HF model — operates at 13.56 MHz for ISO 15693 and compatible HF/NFC transponders.
  • Internal antenna — the air-core coil is integrated into the reader housing.
  • Visible machine feedback — the illuminated RFID symbol communicates reader states, and its colors can be configured through the system.
  • ACM 9 connection — one communication module can power and coordinate up to four LF or HF ARE i9 readers.
Reader advantages

One Compact Housing, Two RFID Frequency Options

Choose the frequency for the installed tag population while keeping the same small reader platform and ACM 9 integration approach.

  • LF Coverage The LF version combines ASK, PSK, FSK, and HDX algorithms in one reader.
  • HF Coverage The HF version supports ISO 15693 and common 13.56 MHz HF/NFC chips.
  • Metal Mount Install directly on metal at machinery, fixtures, and operator stations.
  • IP67 The sealed reader is rated for dusty and wet industrial environments when correctly connected.
  • M12 Connection A 5-pin A-coded M12 interface carries power and RS232 communication to ACM 9.
  • Configurable LED The front RFID symbol provides visible standby, read, success, no-read, and error feedback.

Common ARE i9 Questions

  • What is a fixed industrial RFID reader used for?

A fixed reader automatically identifies tagged workpieces, carriers, tools, fixtures, containers, or operator credentials at a defined machine or production checkpoint. ARE i9 is compact enough for assembly, inspection, process-control, and operator stations.

  • Is ARE i9 one reader that switches between LF and HF?

No. ARE i9 is available as separate LF and HF hardware variants. Choose the model that matches the transponder frequency used at that read point.

  • Which tag formats does the LF ARE i9 read?

The LF model combines ASK, PSK, FSK, and HDX algorithms and operates at 125 kHz and 134.2 kHz. Exact chip compatibility should be confirmed for the planned tag.

  • Which tags does the HF ARE i9 read?

The HF model operates at 13.56 MHz and is intended for ISO 15693 and compatible HF/NFC transponders.

  • Can the ARE i9 mount directly on metal?

Yes. Direct mounting on metal is a core feature of the ARE i9 housing and antenna design.

  • Does ARE i9 connect directly to a PLC or industrial Ethernet network?

ARE i9 connects to an ACM 9 communication module. ACM 9 supplies power and exposes EtherCAT, EtherNet/IP, PROFINET, or serial connectivity, depending on the ordered version.

  • How many ARE i9 readers can one ACM 9 run?

Up to four. LF and HF readers can be mixed on the same ACM 9 communication module.
