The USI-1 is a spring-loaded syringe with a Luer Lock cannula. The UPGI-Q and UPGI-QMM are reusable pistol-grips that adjust the ergonomics for higher-volume use.

Syringe-style USI-1 or a pistol-grip — how do I choose?
In general, pick the USI-1 when a tech prefers the feel of a standard syringe or when throughput is low. Pick a pistol-grip for higher volumes and better ergonomics. Either one can work, and sometimes it is just a matter of personal preference.

Which injector pairs with which chip?
All UID chips EXCEPT for the UC-1283 (MiniMax) work with all of our injectors. MiniMax requires the UPGI-QMM pistol-grip if you're buying blister packs.

How is the needle assembly handled between animals?
Needle assemblies are replaced between animals per your IACUC protocol — that's exactly what the ejector tab on the pistol grip is for.

We run MiniMax studies — do we need both a UPGI-Q and a UPGI-QMM?
Not necessarily. The UPGI-QMM accepts everything the UPGI-Q does, so one QMM can cover both MiniMax and standard chips. If MiniMax runs in its own room or rack, keeping both injectors keeps needle inventory simple; if MiniMax is only occasional, one UPGI-QMM covers everything.

Do the injectors ship pre-loaded with chips?
Mostly no. Injectors and chips are ordered separately. The one exception is the UC-1283 MiniMax, which is also sold as a pre-loaded, sterile single-use injector.
