Common Questions
-
When should I use the wand instead of the 12-inch stick antenna?
Reach for the wand when the animal is in your hand at intake, on the procedure table, or during a health check. The 12-inch stick antenna is the fixed-length option for working down a row of cages on a rack. Both connect to the same base station through the UAC-2M cable, so labs running a base station often keep one of each and swap in whichever the task calls for.
-
Does this work with the URH handheld readers?
No. The wand connects to the base-station reader line (UBS-200 / UBC-600) through the UAC-2M cable. The URH-1HP and URH-2 read through their own integrated antennas and do not accept an external wand. The URH-300HP does take an external antenna, but that is the telescoping URH-PLEX, not this part.
-
Read range — what should I expect?
Plan on 4–8 cm. The smaller the chip, the shorter the range: a 1.4 × 8.5 mm chip reads at a shorter distance than a 2.1 × 13 mm one. Orientation matters as well, so sweep the wand across the implant site rather than hold it in one spot.
Replacing a Wand or Building Out a Base-Station Setup?
If you're outfitting a new procedure room or replacing damaged hardware, we can confirm compatibility against your reader serial numbers before you order.
