Provisioning Service

Custom Programmed Microchips

Send us the data you want programmed on each chip. Your microchips will arrive pre-programmed and sterile inside the cannula, ready for implantation.

  • Programmed before it ships
  • Labeled with your data
  • Sterile in the cannula

Skip the Bench Provisioning Step

Not every lab wants to own and run a provisioning station. If your team would rather send us the data and get chips back ready to load, this is the service for you.

  • No provisioning hardware — skip buying a UPS-60 or UBS-200L if programming isn't something you want to run in-house.
  • Single studies — a one-off cohort that doesn't justify setting up your own provisioning workflow.
  • High-volume cohorts — free up tech time that bench programming would otherwise eat into.
  • Standardized data — every chip across a colony gets your data written the same way, every time.
How it works

How the Service Works

  1. Tell us what data goes on each chip

Send us your study numbers, cohort codes, genotypes, DOB, or any other string you want in the 16-character field. Whatever you'd normally type into PiSuite or the UBS-200L, we can write instead.

  2. We program each chip in its sealed cannula

Each microchip is programmed while it's still sealed in the cannula, using the same method as our own provisioning stations, so sterility is never broken.

  3. Each package is labeled with what's on the chip

The blister pack label matches the data programmed onto the chip inside, so the label in your hand and the data on the reader always agree.

  4. Chips ship sterile and ready to implant

Load the cannula into your injector and go. Scan the animal on any UID reader and your data reads back with the ID, no separate provisioning step.

Common Questions

  • What data can I put on the chips?

Anything that fits in the 16-character programmable field. Study numbers, cohort codes, genotypes, DOB, or your own internal ID scheme all work. Tell us the format you want and we write it to each chip before it ships.

  • Can the data be changed later?

Yes. Chips programmed through this service can still be rewritten afterward using UID's PiSuite software, either in the cannula with a UPS-60 or in the animal with a UBS-200L.

  • Do the chips stay sterile through programming?

Yes. Each chip is programmed while it's still sealed in its cannula, the same way it would be on a UPS-60, so the sterile blister pack is never opened.

  • Which microchips does the service cover?

The provisioning service covers all UID microchips.

  • What if we'd rather program the chips ourselves?

That's what the UPS-60 Chip Provisioning Station is for. It runs on UID's PiSuite software and programs up to six chips at once on your own bench, so you're not stuck between a fully custom service and per-chip manual work.

  • Do I need special hardware to read the programmed data?

Any UID RFID reader returns the chip's ID and the data you had us program, in the same scan.
