Slit3 Fragments Orchestrate Neurovascular Expansion and Thermogenesis in Brown Adipose Tissue

This study explains how brown adipose tissue coordinates new blood vessels and sympathetic nerves during cold-induced thermogenesis. Adipocyte progenitors secreted SLIT3, which BMP1 split into two functional fragments: SLIT3-N promoted angiogenesis, while SLIT3-C acted through the newly identified PLXNA1 receptor to expand sympathetic innervation; both were required for an integrated thermogenic response.
