Dietary Hempseed Decreases Femur Maximum Load in a Young Female C57BL/6 Mouse Model but Does Not Influence Bone Mineral Density or Micro-Architecture

Sparks, C.A., et al. 2022

Nutrients

Summary

This study fed growing female C57BL/6 mice control, 5%, or 15% hempseed diets from five to twenty-nine weeks of age to assess bone quality. Hempseed did not improve bone mineral density, microarchitecture, stiffness, yield, displacement, or work to fracture, and the 15% diet reduced the femur's maximum load compared with controls, indicating no skeletal benefit and possible loss of strength. UID UC-2112 microchips and a URH-1HP reader provided animal identification.
