This study tested whether intermittent adolescent ethanol exposure creates lasting tolerance in male and female rats. Males, but not females, showed short-term tolerance to ethanol-induced motor impairment and hypothermia without altered blood ethanol levels, and the effect disappeared by thirty days; sex-specific, transient changes also appeared in brain ethanol-metabolizing enzymes.
