Host genetic diversity contributes to disease outcome in Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever virus infection

Rao, et al. 2024

Preprint

Summary

This study used genetically diverse Collaborative Cross mice to test whether host genetics help determine Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever severity. Infected lines reproduced outcomes ranging from mild or unrecognized infection to fatal hemorrhagic disease, and greater viral replication, tissue damage, and inflammation tracked with worse outcomes, closely paralleling human disease. UID UCT-2112 temperature microchips provided continuous physiological monitoring.
