One Standard, So Any Compliant Chip Reads on Any Compliant Reader

ISO 11784/11785 is the international standard for animal microchips: any compliant chip returns the same 15-digit number to any compliant reader. UID designs and manufactures its own readers and microchips, so both halves of that scan are built to the same standard.

Common Questions

  • Will our reader scan a chip from another clinic or shelter?

    Both readers scan TraqPaw and compatible ISO FDX-B microchips. The URH-300HP-ISO also reads HDX tags. If your practice sees older non-ISO chips, contact us to confirm compatibility before you order.

  • USB or Bluetooth — which do we need?

    USB if the reader stays at a fixed station next to the PC. Bluetooth if the operator moves between exam rooms, a procedure area, or for large animals. The URH-300HP-ISO offers Bluetooth as an option.

  • How does the number get into our PIMS?

    In HID keyboard mode, the number drops into whichever PIMS or spreadsheet field has focus, the same way a keyboard types. Nothing to install. Serial output is available on the URH-2-ISO when your IT team needs the raw data stream instead.

  • Which reader do we need for horses or cattle?

    The URH-300HP-ISO is built for the reach large-animal work needs, and its optional URH-PLEX antenna brings the antenna closer when access is limited.

  • Do we need special software to run these readers?

    No. In HID keyboard mode, your PC treats the reader like a keyboard, so there is no separate scanning application to learn or install.

  • What's a typical reader pairing for a general practice?

    PetScan (URH-2-ISO) fits routine dog and cat scans. Add a URH-300HP-ISO for larger animals or harder-to-reach implants.
